Aaron Pressley's late header earned Walsall a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town on Saturday. The forward nodded home eight minutes from time to cancel out Ronan Coughlan's second-half opener for the hosts.
Walsall had more of the ball but found themselves behind after 61 minutes when Lewis McCann set up Coughlan to score. Lee Grant's side responded well, with Andrew Dallas providing the cross for Pressley's key equaliser. The striker was pleased to contribute. "I’m just glad to get on the end of that and help the team get a point," Pressley said.
Grant's changes
The manager made a double change after falling behind, introducing Courtney Clarke and Charlie Crew. The point keeps Walsall sixth in League Two, with 15 points from their opening nine games. They are four points behind leaders Salford City and have lost just once this season. Their recent form is strong, with the team now unbeaten in their last five league matches.
Walsall created an expected goals figure of 1.25 and forced six saves from the Fleetwood goalkeeper. They were, however, shown three yellow cards, with Sven Sprangler, Reece Smith and Isaac Moore all booked. The team's defensive record remains strong, having conceded only six goals so far this campaign. Check the latest standings for the full league picture.
Attention now turns to the EFL Trophy, where Walsall host Fulham U21s at the Bescot Stadium on Tuesday night. Their next league assignment is a trip to 17th-placed Swindon Town on Saturday, 17 October.
