Walsall have gone unbeaten across their opening nine league games for the first time in 47 years. Manager Lee Grant has praised the travelling supporters for their role in the team's resilient start to the season.

Grant's side sit sixth in League Two with 15 points from those nine matches, a position built on a foundation of three wins and six draws. The latest point came in a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town, where Aaron Pressley's 82nd-minute header cancelled out Ronan Coughlan's opener.

Grant on fan impact

"They don’t know when they’re beaten and the response from the supporters," Grant said. "We travelled with so many supporters, which is so important for the lads actually. They see it. They feel it."

He highlighted the team's character in securing late points, referencing the equaliser at Tranmere in the 91st minute and the comeback at Fleetwood. "It’s nice to see that the character of the group is coming through in those moments," Grant added. The manager expressed pride in the new-look squad but stressed the need for greater consistency in performance levels.

Grant stated.

The current run is the club's best league start since the 1979-80 season under Alan Buckley, who began with a 13-match unbeaten streak that led to promotion. The recent form shows two wins, two draws and one defeat from the last five outings. The latest standings confirm Walsall remain firmly in the play-off picture, four points behind leaders Salford City.

Fleetwood boss Matt Lawlor acknowledged Walsall as tough opposition and expressed frustration at conceding a preventable goal to Pressley, whom he identified as the best header of the ball in the league. Lawlor said. The draw extended Fleetwood's winless run to five games. Walsall's focus now shifts to maintaining their strong start on the road at Swindon Town this coming weekend.
