Walsall man Chad O'Loughlin, 28, of Bluebell Crescent, Walsall, was found in the driver's seat of his damaged Tesla on the J6 slip road of the M6 on April 25. He had been on a night out in Birmingham and was nearly three times over the legal limit during a roadside test conducted by officers. O'Loughlin pleaded guilty to being in charge of a motor vehicle while above the alcohol limit at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, May 26. He was handed ten points on his licence and avoided a driving ban. Prosecuting, Alisha Collins said: 'On April 25 officers received reports of a Tesla that was stranded on the slip road to the J6 of the M6.' O'Loughlin had 'no previous convictions and was of good character' prior to the incident. Questions were raised as to why the lesser charge was brought, rather than drink-driving, given that he would have had to have driven to the scene. However, the charge remained as drunk in charge, reports Birmingham Live. O'Loughlin's 'very expensive experience' has left him with a costly outcome, and he will have to live with the consequences of his actions.
