Walsall defender Evan Weir has joined Peterborough United on a three-year deal, leaving the Saddlers after making 56 appearances and scoring four times. Weir, 24, joined Walsall in January 2024 from League of Ireland side Drogheda. He will complete his move on 1 July on a contract that runs until the summer of 2029, with an option for an additional 12 months. Posh boss Luke Williams said, "Evan is a really positive player, he can fend for himself as a defender, but he can also join in attacks and deliver into the box well." Weir is Peterborough's first signing of the summer as the club starts to reshape the squad following last season's 18th-placed finish in League One. Three players have already been released and another eight are on the transfer list. Weir is expected to bring his experience and skills to the Posh squad, helping them to improve their performance in the upcoming season. The Saddlers will be looking to replace Weir's departure with a new signing, but it remains to be seen who will fill the gap left by the Irish full-back. Weir's move to Peterborough is a significant one, and it will be interesting to see how he performs in his new team.
