Reece Smith scored a dramatic injury-time equaliser to earn Walsall a 1-1 draw away to Tranmere Rovers. The late strike preserved the club's unbeaten start to the League Two campaign and kept them second in the table with 13 points from seven games.
Bobby Faulkner had put the hosts ahead in the 73rd minute with a header that beat goalkeeper Jed Ward. Walsall had to survive heavy pressure, with Ward making ten saves throughout the match, and also saw Tranmere's Joe Ironside miss a penalty in the 35th minute.
Substitute Will Etheridge provided the assist for Smith's low finish in the first minute of added time. The goal came after a match where Walsall had less of the ball and were outshot 21 to seven.
Manager Lee Grant made several changes in the second half, introducing Taione Sodje, Ryan Leak, Albert Adomah and Etheridge in search of a response. The result extends Walsall's recent run to one win, three draws and one loss in their last five matches.
