Walsall’s Lee Grant Sees Strong Squad but Needs More Arrivals
The Nucleus of a Strong Squad
Walsall head coach Lee Grant recently spoke about his team's current state, stating that he feels they have the “nucleus of a strong squad.” However, he also emphasized that there is still room for improvement and more signings are necessary to ensure depth.
The club has made significant changes this summer, welcoming 10 new players while letting go of 14 others since the end of last season. Grant will make his competitive debut with Walsall when they face Championship side Bristol City in the Carabao Cup first round on Thursday evening.
Patience and Decision-Making
Grant acknowledges that there are still areas where additional depth is needed, but remains confident that the club can bring in what it requires. He highlighted the importance of being patient in the loan market, given Walsall's position in the pyramid structure and budget constraints.
'“Things filter down and our position in the pyramid means we perhaps have to wait longer than others,” Grant said. “Everything is intertwined with your budget - what you can have and what you can’t have.”'
Grant also stressed that making good decisions based on urgent needs will be key, adding: '“I’m really pleased with the decisions that we’ve made so far. I want to continue to keep making good decisions.”'
Centre-back Declan Skura and midfielder Isaac Moore are the only two loan signings so far this summer.
