Walsall's Baptism by Bucket
Walsall's St Matthew's Church held a special outdoor baptism on Sunday, August 2, combining faith, football, and a message about saving water. The ceremony, led by Rev Jim Trood, used three specially labelled buckets - 'Father', 'Son', and 'Holy Spirit' - to complete the baptism.
A Local Twist
Local candidate Carl Perry was baptised by Rev Jim Trood, wearing Walsall's new official shirt for the occasion. The design of the shirt was inspired by the intricate ceiling inside St Matthew's Church, creating a link between the church's heritage and the football club.
Water Conservation
Rev Jim Trood said the decision to use buckets allowed the church to maintain the significance of the baptism while being mindful of water conservation. With the recent heatwaves, filling a large immersion tank simply didn't feel responsible regarding water consumption.
