Walsall manager Lee Grant has warned that the club will face one of its toughest games of the season when Grimsby Town visit Bescot on Saturday. Grant, who has started the season with back-to-back wins over Bristol City and Gillingham, believes the match will be a stern test.
Pre-season start
Grant’s first two victories came in a cup match against Bristol City and a league game at Priestfield Stadium, where Walsall won 3-0 with a late siege.
Grimsby’s form
Grimsby opened the League Two campaign with a 1-0 home win over Exeter City, thanks to a match-winner from Harvey Rodgers. The Mariners were eliminated from the League Cup by Blackpool in a 3-1 defeat. They have also lost key players Evan Khouri, George McEachran and Jaze Kabia.
Grant’s assessment
Grant praised Grimsby’s head coach for his quality and the squad he has built, stating that the team is “guaranteed” to finish in the top seven. He added that the upcoming match will be a “wonderful test and challenge” for Walsall.
Player movements
Former Saddlers Joe Foulkes and Andy Cook have joined Grimsby this summer. Cook, who scored eight goals in 22 games on loan-including two against Walsall in February-has now returned permanently.
