Walsall has confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Sam Hornby, who has joined non-league side Hednesford Town on a free transfer. Hornby, 31, played just 22 matches for Walsall across all competitions, including 10 appearances in League Two. His move comes after two seasons with the Saddlers, where he had a notable impact despite limited game time. Hornby previously played for Hednesford at the start of his career and returns to Key Park following their promotion to the National League North. He had one year remaining on the two-year contract he signed last year. This transfer marks the 14th departure from Walsall since the end of the last campaign, with Connor Barrett also recently moving to League One side Wigan Athletic. Hornby had a successful trial period in 2024, contributing significantly to Walsall's run to the last 16 of the EFL Trophy, where he memorably saved two penalty kicks in a group stage match. Walsall fans will be eager to see how the club rebuilds after these departures as they prepare for the upcoming season.
