Walsall's football club is experiencing a significant boost in its youth development pathway, according to former academy manager Rob Williams. Williams, who concluded his second tenure at Walsall's academy in November 2025, believes the connection between the youth setup and the first team is the strongest it has been in years. Recently, the club has seen several academy players make their debuts, showcasing the effectiveness of their development program. Notable debutants include Ronan Maher, Dylan Thomas, Stan Straw, Charlie Wragg, McLloyd Oben, and Paul Makavore. Will Etheridge also made his first appearance for Walsall during the final game of the season against Bromley, marking a significant milestone as he was the first academy product to debut in a league match since Maher in July 2022. Williams emphasized the importance of building a positive working relationship between the academy and the first team, a strategy that was reinforced during Mat Sadler's time as head coach. This integration has allowed Walsall to nurture homegrown talent effectively, ensuring a bright future for the club.
